Circle Program Honors Mary Ann McRae and Karen Werner with Emeriti Trustee Status

PLYMOUTH, NH – The Circle Program is proud to announce the appointment of Mary Ann McRae and Karen Werner as Emeriti Trustees, a special designation reserved for individuals whose exceptional dedication and leadership have left a lasting impact on the organization. This honor recognizes their profound contributions to the Circle Program's growth, sustainability, and mission.

Mary Ann McRae's journey with the Circle Program began as a dedicated mentor, and her commitment to the mission quickly led her to the Board of Directors. She served in multiple capacities on the board totaling 12 years of service, demonstrating her unwavering belief in the program.

Mary Ann's vision extended beyond board service, focusing on the need for expanded programming for girls. She spearheaded the grassroots effort that evolved into the Graduate Program, providing ongoing support for girls who completed their two-year Circle experience. Her leadership was also instrumental in expanding summer offerings, helping to establish the Teen Summer Camp in 2008 and the Teen Adventure Program in 2012, which created tailored experiences for different age groups.

"Mary Ann’s legacy is woven into the very fabric of Circle Program," said Executive Director Beth Dever. "Her thoughtful input and active participation helped establish many of the programs and best practices we still rely on today. We are deeply grateful for her vision, her heart, and her enduring commitment."

Karen Werner's deep connection to the Circle Program began as a way to honor the memory of her late daughter, Alison. In a living tribute, Karen and her husband, Eric, created the Alison Werner Barton Activity Center at Circle Camp, a space that includes the low ropes course, two activity fields, and an outdoor cooking site.

Karen served as a board member for nine years, leading on both the Camp Committee and the Resource and Development Committee. Karen's energy and wisdom have been vital in shaping the program's growth. She continues to be a tireless ambassador for Circle Program, recruiting mentors and educating others about the program's impact.

"Karen is a true inspiration and a pillar of the Circle community," said Circle Board President, Talesha Saint-Marc "Her kindness and generosity have touched every corner of our community, and her legacy lives on in every camper who dares to challenge themselves on the ropes course or makes a new friend in the activity center."

The Circle Program is honored to recognize both Mary Ann McRae and Karen Werner for their extraordinary service and lasting contributions. Their passion and leadership have been fundamental to the organization's success and will continue to inspire generations of mentors and girls.
