Happy Spring! We had 2 gatherings this weekend, one for our girls and one for our teens....
Career Pathways Workshop
Thank you to everyone who attended the Career Pathways Workshop on April 14 at Franklin Savings and Loan in Tilton. We explored the many career and continuing education options for our teens after high school. This was a life preparatory workshop with a little something for everyone. Topics covered included: STEM careers for women, NH Job Corps, Cosmetology school, the many options of the military, trade and vocational schools, the arts, community college and traditional four year colleges and universities. We were grateful to have retired Lt Col. Val Scarborough of the United States Marine Corps, who spoke with the girls about her experience in the military. The girls participated in a sharing activity that put their “sparks” on display for their peers. We were also graciously provided some donated prom and formal dresses that the teens were able to try on.... and they looked amazing! No one fought over the dresses and I was really pleased to see how the girls supported and shared with each other. We ended the day with pizza at Upper Crust in Tilton. Overall it was a great day and it was nice to have some mentors in attendance as well! We are all Looking forward to Circle Camp 2019!
This Saturday, the girl’s group met at the Concord Sports Center to play active games on their indoor field and gear up for the Circle Trot. We played a variety of fun and team-building games to warm up. Then we used an exercise that we adapted from a Girls on the Run 5k training program. The exercise involves alternating periods of running and walking. To make things more exciting, we played a game of tag during the running periods. I learned that we have some very fast girls as I was frequently tagged “it.” I was impressed by the girls’ energy and motivation to keep moving!
Afterwards, we moved to the party room to wind down and enjoyed the popcorn and ice cream cake that was included in our accommodations. We used the opportunity to celebrate our April birthdays (Layla, Sara and Hannah) and played a game to learn more about each other. We split the group into two teams and had each team member write down their dream vacation destination. Teams then swapped answers and tried to guess which person from the other team had written each answer. We had some surprising locations, like Bora Bora, China and even the library!
