The Snow Shoe Sleepover was held at the Mayhew Base Camp office on Newfound Lake and was quite the adventure. 12 teens were joined by myself and mentor/TAP/LIT counselor Jamie Capaul on this exciting weekend! We made healthy snacks, personal pizzas, mindful moon pops with Nutella, oatmeal with fruit, and bagels and cream cheese.
We went snow shoeing on Newfound lake and watched snow mobiles whizzing by, played follow the leader, and checked out some really cool ice fishing huts! We had such a great time on the lake and we even got a chance to look at the Mayhew Island from a distance.
Once we returned to base camp, the teens participated in a self- love activity called “Me, Myself, and I”, where they were asked to make a self-portrait collage that depicted their true self. The teens creativity and intelligence shined through when they created their original and unique self-portraits.
After the activity, we made our personal pizzas with toppings of our choice, played basketball, foursquare, dancing in the gym, piano, guitar, hide and go seek, “graveyard”, flashlight tag, pool, and much more. The girls stayed up late into the night talking and reconnecting with friends from camp they had not seen in a while. Some teens fell asleep earlier than others but eventually they all were sleeping soundly and woke for a not so restful Sunday morning.
Overall I would say this gathering was a lot of fun! We look forward to continuing the tradition in years to come. Thank you to all the teens that came out for an amazing weekend!
A special thanks for the endless support from Mayhew, the girls are filled with gratitude!
