MANCHESTER -  Citizens Bank and New Hampshire Union Leader on Thursday announced Circle Program as a 2015 Champion in Action in the category of youth empowerment. The Plymouth-based non-profit will receive $35,000 in unrestricted funding, media coverage, and extensive promotional and volunteer support for its work.

The Circle Program offers mentoring and summer camp opportunities for socially and economically disadvantaged New Hampshire girls ages 9-18.

"Circle Program is an essential program providing New Hampshire girls with new opportunities to develop critical, life-empowering skills," said Joe Carelli, Citizens Bank New Hampshire president, in a news release. "Citizens Bank is proud to be collaborating with them as they support the growth and development of girls across the state."

Champions in Action is part of Citizens Helping Citizens Strengthen Communities, the bank's program designed to enhance quality of life and economic vitality in local communities. It provides support for small nonprofit organizations to recognize their contributions to communities throughout New Hampshire.

"We applaud the efforts of the Circle Program, which nurtures girls from low income families with a unique combination of adult and peer support," said Joe McQuaid, Publisher, New Hampshire Union Leader. "With this Champion in Action recognition, we are pleased to be fostering important services provided by the program."

"Circle Program is proud to be named a Champion in Action by Citizens Bank and the Union Leader as part of our ongoing work improving the lives of girls from low income families," said Kathleen Kearns, executive director, Circle Program. "We are honored to be recognized by both New Hampshire institutions, and look forward to helping young people with our residential summer camp and year-round mentoring program."
