The girls referred to the Circle Program have great potential, but lack the opportunities and resources to develop that potential. Circle offers our girls a positive and comprehensive program designed to help them thrive. And the girls do thrive because of the individual connections they make and the long-lasting friendships they keep for life!
Girls are initially enrolled into the Circle Program when entering their 5th or 6th grade year, and are referred by teachers, guidance counselors, social service agencies and even family members. After their first two years in the program, girls can choose to continue with Circle through their high school years. This eight year model enables us to truly make a lasting difference in their lives.
Girls begin their Circle Program experience with a three-week session at Circle Camp, which provides the foundation for our entire program. After camp each girl is paired with a volunteer woman mentor from her community. The girls and mentors meet throughout the school year for one-on-one activities as well as for group community service projects. These activities allow the girls to maintain the connections and friendships they made at camp, as well as give back to the communities that support them. Girls return to camp for a second summer followed by another year with their mentor.
A Circle Alumni:
In 1993, with your support, I became a Circle girl. In those years, I learned five basic things:
- How to get along with other people.
- How to make friends and keep them.
- How to keep my hopes up, no matter what!
- How to boost my self-confidence.
- How to think before I act or speak.
When I graduated from the Circle Program, I was sad, but now others have the same chance to learn what I did because of your support. Thanks!
